Hot Tub Operating Procedures

The Operating Procedures are to ensure the water remains clean and safe for everyone to use and to avoid damage to the equipment. It's is the hirers responsibility to ensure the Operating Procedures are followed.
Hot Tub Setup and Comissioning
We will setup the hot tub, add chemicals and start filling with water. It takes about 3 hours to fill the hot tub with water; this may take longer depending on the water pressure. To speed up the heating process, we highly recommend adding hot water from your kitchen or bathroom tap - we carry universal tap adapters which fit most taps to connect a water hose to indoor taps.
Please note if only cold water is added it will take 24 - 48 hours to heat the water to optimum temperature, however, if you have a kombi boiler or large water tank, you can use the hot tub sooner.
Please note below on the day we setup:
- Fill the hot tub with water: Monitor the water levels while the spa is filling with water. Once the water level is above the MINIMUM level (and below MAXIMUM level) remove the hose from the spa to avoid siphoning
- Turn ON the Heating and Filtration System once the water level is above the MINIMUM level, by pressing the buttons (see below). Monitor the water temperature to ensure it increases at least 1 degree after 2 hours. If this does not happen, please follow instructions ‘Resetting the Thermostat’.
Clean the filter cartridge twice per day
We recommend cleaning in the morning and evening (after the spa has been used) as this is when the filter cartridge will be at its dirtiest. If the water is cloudy and not crystal clear the filter cartridge is not clean enough or chlorine levels are too low.
How to clean the filter cartridge:
STEP 1 of 5: Turn OFF the Heater and Filter on the Pump
STEP 2 of 5: Unscrew the cap at the front of the filter housing, remove the housing cover and the filter cartridge inside.
STEP 3 of 5: Rinse the filter cartridge under tap water and
clean between the pleats.
STEP 4 of 5:Return the cleaned filter cartridge to the filter housing
cover and screw it back onto the lower debris screen inside the hot tub.
STEP 5 of 5: Turn ON the Heater and Filter on the Pump.
Check & Record Chlorine levels daily
The Chlorine levels must be between 3-5 ppm (parts per million) which is a purple color on test strip. Follow the steps below to check the chlorine levels and record this in the 'Daily Chemical Record' sheet provided.
* If the water is cloudy then it’s likely the chlorine levels are too low or the filter cartridge is not clean.
How to check the chlorine levels
STEP 1 of 5: Use dry hands and open flip-top cap and take out 1 test strip.
STEP 2 of 5: Dip test strip into the water so it’s submerged for 15 seconds then remove from water.
STEP 3 of 5: Wait 15 Seconds and compare chlorine level on test strip to the chart on bottle
*Note: chlorine is the second row from the top on the test strip and bottle.
STEP 4 of 5: If chlorine levels are below 3ppm then add 2 tablespoons (half a scoop) of chlorine granules to the water and wait 1 hour before using hot tub.
STEP 5 of 5: If chlorine levels are above 5ppm then do not add more chlorine to the water and remove the chlorine floater form the spa.
The chorine floater contains self-dissolving chlorine tablets. Leave this in the hot tub and remove from hot tub when hot tub is being used. Remember to put this back in the water after the hot tub has been used.
Check heating and filtration is alway on
Both heating and filtration should remain on throughout the hire period to ensure the water temperature is maintained and water is filtered.
Note: Turn both heating and filter OFF only when cleaning the filter cartridge to prevent dirt from going into the pump and causing damage. Remember to turn the heating and filtration back on again once the filter cartridge has been cleaned.
Check this daily, especially in the evening before going to bed to ensure no-one has turned this off to avoid losing overnight heating and filtration time.
Operating the Pump controls

Please note: Children are not allowed to operate the pump and must always be supervised by a responsible adult.
Lock/Unlock - The pump has a 5-minute auto-lock. The LED light will dim out when the pump is locked (no function is activated). To lock or unlock the pump, place a finger over the lock/unlock button for 3 seconds.
Timer– Sets the timer for the heating function. DO NOT USE this function. The heating and filtration function should remain ON during the hire period.
Bubbles (Massage Systems) - Use this button to activate the massage system, which has a 30-minute auto-shutoff feature. The light above the Lay-Z-Massage System
Celsius / Fahrenheit Toggle – The temperature display can be switched between Fahrenheit or Celsius
Heater – Use this button to activate the heating system. When the light is RED, the heating system is activated. When the light is GREEN, the water is at the set temperature and the heating system is at rest.
NOTE: If the heating system is activated the filtration system will automatically start.
NOTE: After turning off the heating system the filtration system will continue to operate.
Filter – Turns the filter pump on and off. The light displays red when activated.
Temperature Increase & Decrease – press up or down arrows to set the desired temperature, maximum temperature is 40°C (104°F).
NOTE: In winter and when it’s cold we recommend leaving the temperature on 40 degrees Celsius and use less of the bubbles to retain the heat and water temperature for longer periods. It can take 2-3 hour to heat the water by 1 degree when outside temperature is below 10 degree Celsius.
Hot Tub Collection / End of Hire
NOTE: If no-one will be present when we collect the hot tub then please ensure all hired items are left outside such as the bluetooth speaker, floating bar, extension lead, tap adapter, hose pipe etc.
When we collect we will need access to the hot tub, clean water and electricity. We will bring a submersible water pump with 15 meter hose and empty the water into a nearby drain (or garden if there’s no drain within reach). It takes about 15 minutes to empty the hot tub.
Please ensure the following when we collect:
- DO NOT switch the pump off – Leave the filter light ON so water is continuously circulated and filtered.
- The chlorine levels are above 3 ppm; ensure the chlorine level is above 3 ppm (purple color) and add another full scoop of chlorine granules to the water once you’ve finished using it to prevent bacteria build up
- Keep the lid on and securely fastened.
